Our Mission:
To help children in the community achieve their highest potential.
To foster a spirit of positive thinking, and the confidence in
knowing that if our children believe, our children will achieve.
Our Philosophy
EDWARDS Learning Center’s approach is grounded in an Appreciative philosophy,
where consistent and positive reinforcement through the use of
language and role modeling is woven throughout the learning experience.
The positive learning approach, along with providing incentives
as a means to recognize accomplishments, allows each child to
maximize and reach his or her full potential. EDWARDS Learning
Center is a healthy, professional, and warm atmosphere for children
to learn, and a creative and rewarding work environment for our
employees.
Guidelines
EDWARDS Learning Center professionals adhere to the highest standards
in the conduct of our programs and services.
We keep all relationships on a professional level, and we encourage
cooperative effort. Our students’ welfare governs all of the activities
that we undertake.
The information that we derive from working with our students
is confidential and we will not release it to others without written
consent.
We know what our programs and resources are capable of accomplishing
and we do not make promises beyond those capabilities. We try
not to accept any person who we believe is unlikely to benefit
from our assistance. And if we believe other professional services
are needed, we will recommend them for your consideration.
Our Staff
EDWARDS Learning Center reflects its commitment to providing a
positive and professional learning environment through its hiring
process. Teachers/tutors are interviewed using the Appreciative
inquiry interview process. The appreciative interview asks questions
that are geared toward finding individuals who see the good
in people and children, and who strive to bring about the best
from them. As such, the faculty and staff at EDWARDS Learning
Center bring with them positive behaviors and thinking
styles that EDWARDS Learning wishes to highlight and impart
upon their children and the community. EDWARDS Learning Center
also strives to maintain a highly qualified teachers,
and will first seek to find certified teachers, hiring teachers
who possess at the very least a Bachelors degree. Tutors studying
to become teachers will be used on a temporary and substitute
basis only.
Hours of Operations
EDWARDS Learning Center is open Monday through Friday, 3:30pm
to 7:30pm and Saturdays 9am – 4pm. Summer hours will be
scheduled according to needs assessment.
About our Founder/Owner
Mrs.
Edwards spent sixteen (16) years in the corporate arena, working
in a variety of management positions for a Fortune 30 company.
She is currently a Senior Human Resources manager specializing
in professional management training and development for over twenty
thousand (20,000) lower and middle-management employees. She holds
a Bachelor degree in Finance and Economics, a Masters degree in
Adult Education and Human Resources, and a Doctorate of Management
Degree in Organizational Leadership (abd).
Mrs. Edwards was inspired to open an after-school community
based technology center (EDWARDS Learning Center) in the town of
Phillipsburg, because she wants to ensure that all children, and
particularly low-income children, have access to individualized
Math, Reading/Language Arts , Social Studies and Science instruction
through the use of technology. Mrs. Edwards believes how you
teach is as important as what you teach and
that, based on the vast body of research about how students learn,
there are optimal methods of instruction for different types of
content, different types of students, and different situations.
