F.A.Q.

Q. What’s the difference between EDWARDS Learning Center and other tutoring services?

Unlike other tutoring centers, EDWARDS Learning Center is a technology-based learning center that utilizes an advance educational software to meet your child’s individual needs. EDWARDS Learning Center employs an holistic approach to learning, where the child, the computer and the tutor, work in collaboration for maximum results.

Q. How do I know if my child needs tutoring?

Here are some few reasons why your child will benefit from EDWARDS Learning Center tutoring services:

  • Continued falling grades in school
  • Child shows frustration in a particular subject(s)
  • Child develops low self-esteem and thinks negatively of himself or herself in regards to school
    performance
  • Child is constantly making excuses as to why he or she is not doing homework
  • Child experiences anxieties when taking tests and exams
  • No matter how hard your child works, grades do not improve
  • Child is bored in school

Q. Is testing conducted at EDWARDS Learning Center to see where my child needs help?

When you enroll your child at EDWARDS Learning Center, the first thing we do is give your child an assessment to discover his or her strengths and areas of improvement against the State standards. The educational software will pinpoint areas for improvement and automatically map an individualized curriculum based on the test results. The Director will meet with you to review your child’s results and recommend a personalized program for your child . Ongoing testing is conducted to see if your child has improved.

Q. What is the teacher / student ratio at EDWARDS Learning Center? Will my child have his / her own computer?

The maximum class size is 4 children per teacher, so there is guaranteed personal attention. Children work on their own computer.

Q. What is the cost of tutoring at EDWARDS Learning Center? How does this compare to other tutoring centers?

EDWARDS Learning Center is committed to helping families in Phillipsburg and the surrounding areas take advantage of supplemental education without taking on a huge financial burden. To that end, in comparison to most national tutoring centers where the cost ranges from as much as $50 per hour, plus registration and assessment fees, EDWARDS Learning Center's hourly rate is $25 per hour with no registration fees and a one time diagnostic fee of $75.00.

Q. How many times a week will my child need to attend EDWARDS Learning Center?

EDWARDS Learning Center agrees with Edward Gordon, a tutoring consultant for the Federal and State government (NJ State), featured on CBS/The Early Show. Most tutoring programs work with the child on an average four to six months, seeing the child for an hour’s session two (2) to three (3) times a week. Less than twice a week is often a waste of time because it is not enough assistance.

Q. Can I enroll at any time of the year?

There is ongoing enrollment throughout the year based on space availability. However, we strongly recommend that you register your child immediately if you realize your child is struggling and/or is failing any subjects in school.
