Diagnosis – The program begins with the use
of an assessment component. This is a valid and reliable test
that assesses student mastery of key skills. Local School districts'
curriculum, and a nationally recognized research organization.
The program automatically prescribes a customized learning path
based on each student’s individual needs as identified by his
or her test results. Program time is focused on closing the learning
gaps between what students know and what they need to know.
Reading/Language Arts/Math/Science and Social
Studies – This program
starts out with a reading/math assessment of your child. After
evaluation of this assessment an individualized reading/math
program will be designed to match your specific child's needs.
The program begins with the development of foundational reading
skills: letter/sound associations and phonics. For students
beyond this foundational level, the EDWARDS Learning Center's
Reading/Language Arts/Math/Science and Social Studies curricula
employ traditional, effective, subject-centered practices, without
ignoring current child-centered strategies. The program utilizes
stimulating reading and fun activities. This reading technology
based program will be self-directing, self-correcting and uses
developmental sequenced activities to help boost the reading
knowledge and skills of your child. Quizzes and unit tests will
be administered at the end of each learning path to ensure mastery.
Computer Enrichment Program – Because most children
of the 21st century communicate via the computer, the computer
is an integral part of EDWARDS Learning Center's curricula. Through
our technology based curricula, students automatically learn the
fundamentals of computers. Intermediate and advance computer training
will be offered on an as-needed basis.
EDWARDS Learning Center Shop – Positive reinforcement
also comes in the form of incentives with complimentary tokens,
acquired by each child who demonstrates positive efforts towards
reaching their daily goals. Positive behaviors will be evaluated:
such as a willingness to learn, time spent on learning the lesson,
and overall attitude towards accomplishing each task. The EDWARDS
Learning Center Shop is a place where children can purchase toys,
books, video games, and gift certificates to a variety of local
stores.
Eventually, students save these tokens for redemption at EDWARDS
Learning Center Shop for a variety of fun prizes- from books,
to small toys and games to gift certificates and CDs. EDWARDS
Learning Center students receive recognition for their effort
and positive attitudes towards learning while, at the same time,
learning how to save.
